Rotary Club of Illawarra Sunrise

The Rotary Club of Illawarra Sunrise is a mixed club of around 41 active and younger members. The club was chartered in 1993 and meets every Friday morning at the Novotel Northbeach at 7.15am. Meetings generally feature a guest speaker plus updates on the various activities in which club members are involved.

Rotary is a service organisation and regular club activites include:

  • A strong youth program supporting Rotary Youth Exchange and local leadership programs for youth.
  • Fundraising for local community projects and charities such as Lifeline. An annual Race Day and major raffle help towards supporting these projects.
  • International service in assisting projects such as Rotary International's Polio Plus campaign, Shelterbox and the club's own work by members in the Philippines.
  • Assisting with the development of vocational service by presenting Pride of Workmanship awards, Bowel Scan, plus visits to local organisations and businesses.

The Smith's Hill Fort is our club's major community activity. The club is working with the Wollongong City Council to maintain and develop the site. Aspects such as: period re-enactments, mock firings, website with histoical archives and teaching materials plus development of an underground museum are all being researched and developed. The club is proud to have received a major IMB Community Foundation grant to assist in this project.
